What a $50,000 kitchen looks like at DADO

At DADO, $50,000 is the top of the medium band, the $30,000 to $50,000 range where most of our projects land. As a whole-project planning figure it typically buys a medium-sized kitchen with more cabinetry than the room strictly needs, a premium finish such as rift white oak veneer or walnut veneer, full interior organization in every base cabinet, a working island with drawers on both faces, quartz counters, and a mid-range appliance package. It is a planning range, not a quote, and what follows is a representative spec rather than one specific project.

More cabinetry than the minimum

The difference between $30,000 and $50,000 in the same room is mostly the amount of cabinetry. At the low end of the band you get the runs the layout needs. At the top you get the tall pantry wall, uppers to the ceiling, a bank of drawers where a single door cabinet would have done, and finished panels on every exposed end so nothing shows a raw side. Cabinetry is priced by how much of it there is and by what it is made of, so this is where the largest share of the money goes.

A premium finish, named exactly

Premium at this level means a real wood veneer on a stable core, not a printed laminate. Rift white oak, cut so the grain runs straight and tight, is the most requested. Walnut veneer is the warmer choice. Many kitchens at this figure mix two finishes: painted slab MDF on the uppers and a wood veneer on the island and the tall units, or the reverse. Integrated handles, either a routed pull in the door edge or a channel behind it, suit the slab door and cost more than a surface handle because they take more machining.

Full interior organization

This is the part you feel every day. Every base cabinet in full-extension drawers on soft-close slides. Dividers in the cutlery and utensil drawers. A pull-out for bins and recycling beside the sink. A corner pull-out instead of a dead corner. A space tower in the pantry run, which is a tall cabinet with internal drawers behind one door so the back of the shelf is never lost. Spice and bottle pull-outs beside the cooktop. The hardware and the mechanical parts, hinges, slides, and soft-close, carry a lifetime warranty*. Wood and laminate finishes typically carry a one-year manufacturer warranty.

A real island

A real island is not a box with one row of doors. It has drawers on the working side, a seating overhang on the other, an end panel that matches the door finish, and enough clearance around it, about 42 inches, that two people can pass. Add a sink or a cooktop and the plumbing and electrical for it are trade work outside our scope, coordinated on the same schedule. Quartz is the usual counter at this level, with a mitred edge on the island if you want it to read thicker.

What it does not include

A $50,000 whole-project plan does not usually include structural changes, moving the plumbing stack, or a high-end appliance package. Any one of those pushes past the medium band, and all three together are how a kitchen reaches the $100,000 and up range. The medium band assumes mid-range appliances and a room that keeps its walls. Counters, trades, and appliances are priced separately from the cabinetry, which is the number we quote, so you can see what moves the total.

A real reference point

For scale, our Camelot Rd project in West Vancouver is a medium kitchen with a cabinetry cost of $25,000: walnut veneer and painted slab MDF, slab doors, integrated handles, plywood boxes. Cabinetry is the largest single line in any kitchen. A $50,000 whole-project plan has room for more cabinetry than that project carried, plus counters and a mid-range appliance package.
